Plot

Hancock is a down-and-out superhero who's forced to employ a PR expert to help repair his image when the public grows weary of all the damage he's inflicted during his lifesaving heroics. The agent's idea of imprisoning the antihero to make the world miss him proves successful, but will Hancock stick to his new sense of purpose or slip back into old habits?

Overall Series Review

Hancock follows a superhero who is universally disliked due to the massive destruction he causes while saving people. A kind-hearted PR consultant takes on the task of fixing the hero's image. The narrative's focus is on personal accountability and moral responsibility. The core conflict is an individual's struggle with self-control, alcoholism, and anti-social behavior versus the need to conform to basic social order. The story judges the main character purely on his actions and merit, making his redemption arc a deeply individual and universal moral journey.

Categorical Breakdown

Identity Politics1/10

The film centers on the protagonist's poor behavior and subsequent redemption rather than his immutable characteristics. Race is not a factor in the narrative's central conflict or character judgment. The relationship between the Black superhero and the White PR agent is based on professional need and moral ideals, showing universal meritocracy.

Oikophobia1/10

The narrative does not depict the home culture or Western society as fundamentally corrupt or racist. The primary conflict is the protagonist's inability to live responsibly within that society. The film argues for individual change and accountability to fit into the social structure.

Feminism3/10

The main female character is revealed to be a super-powered equal to the protagonist, demonstrating high competence and hidden strength. However, the male PR consultant is depicted as a good, ethical, and competent husband, not a bumbling idiot. The story centers on a complementary, centuries-long male-female romantic/marital pairing.

LGBTQ+1/10

The narrative focuses exclusively on the traditional male-female pairing of the main characters and the existing nuclear family structure. There are no elements of alternative sexuality, gender ideology, or deconstruction of the nuclear family presented.

Anti-Theism1/10

The film does not engage with organized religion, nor does it portray faith as a negative force. The moral framework is centered on clear, objective standards of personal responsibility and accountability to the wider society.
