Overall Series Review

Blue Bloods stands as a defiant tribute to traditional Western values, focusing on a multi-generational family of law enforcement officers. It avoids the typical pitfalls of modern television by grounding its characters in a consistent moral framework provided by their Catholic faith and Irish-American heritage. The show emphasizes personal responsibility, the importance of the nuclear family, and the necessity of law and order. While it occasionally addresses modern social debates, it consistently returns to the defense of the institution and the character of the individuals within it.

Categorical Breakdown

Identity Politics2/10

Characters are judged by their integrity and adherence to the law. The show avoids intersectional hierarchies and portrays police officers of all backgrounds as part of a unified brotherhood. It rejects the idea of systemic villainy based on race, though it occasionally acknowledges real-world social pressures without submitting to them.

Oikophobia1/10

The narrative celebrates the American justice system and the sacrifices of ancestors. The flag, the badge, and the city of New York are treated with reverence. It portrays core Western institutions as essential shields against chaos and honors the heritage of the family.

Feminism2/10

Men and women fill distinct, vital roles. Danny and Frank embody protective masculinity, while Erin and Eddie demonstrate professional excellence without demeaning their male counterparts. The show avoids the 'girl boss' trope by showing women who respect and collaborate with the men in their lives.

LGBTQ+2/10

The show centers on the traditional nuclear family and heterosexual marriages. Sexuality is treated as a private matter rather than a political identity. It avoids gender theory and maintains a normative social structure as the baseline for the family unit.

Anti-Theism1/10

Catholicism is the heartbeat of the show. The family prays together before dinner every episode, and their faith provides the moral compass for their difficult decisions. It acknowledges objective truth and portrays faith as a source of strength rather than a source of bigotry.
