Plot

Ellie decides to go back home for Christmas, and help her dad with the candle-making business. Little does she know, however, that her father has charming, writer Logan staying with him, looking for inspiration for his writings.

Overall Series Review

The film centers on Ellie Reddy, a high-powered perfumer, who travels home for Christmas to find inspiration for her next big scent and a potential promotion to VP in Paris. She discovers her father, Jamir, is struggling to keep the family's 150-year-old candle-making business afloat since the passing of her mother. While home, she meets Logan Osborne, a writer staying at the family cottage for his own inspiration, and they team up to find the secret ingredient for the family's legendary 'Christmas Candle.' The narrative is a romantic quest that celebrates family legacy, small-town life, and the values of love and home over a high-stakes, international career.

Categorical Breakdown

Identity Politics2/10

Characters are judged by their career skill and commitment to family legacy, not their race or identity group. The story focuses on a universal Christmas romance plot and a family business crisis. The casting is diverse, featuring a lead actress of South Asian heritage and a white male lead, but the narrative avoids political lecturing or vilification of any specific group.

Oikophobia1/10

The plot's entire focus is on Ellie returning home to save her family's historic, 150-year-old business in a quaint New England town. The central romantic quest is tied to a cherished legend about her ancestors, directly reinforcing the value and legacy of the home and its heritage. Institutions like the family and the local business are viewed as shields against chaos (the business collapsing).

Feminism3/10

Ellie is an accomplished professional and chemist pursuing a major promotion overseas. Her father is depicted as bumbling and incompetent at running the business without his late wife, who was the 'brains of the operation.' However, the narrative ultimately celebrates motherhood and family when Ellie chooses to stay and lead the ancestral business with Logan, valuing personal relationship and home life over the 'Girl Boss' career path.

LGBTQ+1/10

The core story is a traditional, romantic pairing between the male lead, Logan Osborne, and the female lead, Ellie Reddy. The narrative centers on a foundational heterosexual love story from her ancestors' past. The film maintains a normative structure, focusing on the development of a male-female relationship and the nuclear family unit.

Anti-Theism1/10

The movie is explicitly a Christmas-themed production that centers its main mystery around a 'Christmas Candle' tied to a romantic legend and the idea of 'Christmas magic.' The narrative embraces a transcendent morality rooted in love, family, and the spirit of the holiday season, with no hostility directed toward traditional faith.
