Plot

Yuna, a woman engaged with her long time boyfriend, Nicco, starts to have second thoughts when she meets again her first love, Becca. Now she is torn between the man she loves and the woman she first loved.

Overall Series Review

First Taste is a relationship drama centered on Yuna, a woman on the cusp of marriage to her long-time fiancé, Nicco. Her world is destabilized by the reappearance of her first love, Becca. The narrative structure places the protagonist's sexual and romantic fulfillment at the heart of the story, framing her ultimate choice as a decision between the security of a traditional, heterosexual life and the passion of a newly reignited same-sex relationship. The film focuses almost entirely on Yuna's internal conflict and relationship dynamics.

Categorical Breakdown

Identity Politics2/10

The film’s conflict is purely a personal relationship drama and not a political lecture on race, privilege, or systemic oppression. The casting and setting are authentic to the production's non-Western origin, and characters are not judged by race or immutable characteristics in a political sense.

Oikophobia1/10

The plot focuses entirely on a romantic love triangle. There is no narrative element that frames the home culture, nation, or ancestors as fundamentally corrupt or racist, nor does it elevate an 'Other' culture as spiritually superior.

Feminism6/10

The story elevates a woman's individual emotional and sexual self-discovery over the traditional trajectory of a life path that includes marriage to a man and the nuclear family structure. The male love interest, Nicco, is reduced to a supporting role to facilitate the female protagonist's journey of self-actualization.

LGBTQ+10/10

The entire plot is predicated on the centering of an alternative sexuality. The major life choice and dramatic tension for the protagonist, Yuna, is the rejection of a traditional male-female pairing and a heterosexual engagement in favor of a relationship with her female first love, Becca. Sexual identity and orientation are made the most important trait driving the narrative’s resolution.

Anti-Theism1/10

The movie is a romance drama and contains no explicit hostility toward religion or religious figures. The moral conflict is entirely subjective, revolving around a personal romantic choice rather than an exploration of objective moral law or transcendent truth.
