I Am a Hero
Plot
A man witnesses a fatal traffic accident on his way home from work, and the victim is clearly killed on impact. A moment later, when the corpse stands up and walks away, it could be a hallucination or something far more extraordinary.

Categorical Breakdown
Characters are judged by their actions, not their immutable characteristics. The narrative is set in Japan and features a Japanese cast, adhering to cultural and historical authenticity without any political lecturing on race or diversity. The protagonist's conflict is entirely internal and merit-based: becoming a hero by overcoming his timidity and self-doubt.
The movie critiques modern Japanese societal structures, particularly the demanding, conformist white-collar environment. ZQN (zombies) are shown retaining habits of their human lives, a direct commentary on the 'zombified state' of an over-stressed work culture. This deconstructs a contemporary home culture rather than demonizing ancient heritage or ancestors, leading to a moderate, specific critique.
The core narrative follows an emasculated male protagonist who learns to embrace a protective masculinity. Female characters like Hiromi and Yabu are highly competent, possessing knowledge and instincts that keep the protagonist alive. They are not perfect 'Girl Bosses,' but rather vital, complementary survivors whose skills balance the protagonist's initial weaknesses and unique abilities.
The plot contains no discernible themes, characters, or dialogue that engage with alternative sexualities, gender ideology, or the deconstruction of the nuclear family. The focus remains entirely on the visceral survival horror of the ZQN apocalypse.
Religious themes are absent from the narrative. The core conflict is a biological catastrophe (the ZQN virus) and the struggle for survival. Morality is depicted as an objective necessity for group survival, with selfish or evil human survivors being a constant threat to those trying to maintain a higher moral law.
